Creating web pages:

Using an HTML Editor:
You can use any HTML Editor such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Adobe Go Live, etc. If you don't have any editing software you can find shareware, demos, and free programs at: Cnet's download.com, and at: freewarehome.com . . . but it would be better to use one of our Online SiteBuilders (next)

FTP / Uploading Files:

To publish a site using RvSiteBuilder:
If you create your website using RVSiteBuilder your pages are automatically uploaded. After you make changes to a page (Step 5) click the Save Icon Click this Icon to Save your Files and then click on Site Preview ... if you like the changes you can click on Step 7 to Publish the Site.

To publish a site using FrontPage:
If you created your website using FrontPage, you must upload your site properly or some of your components will not work. We have an easy FrontPage Tutorial that will show you how to properly publish your site. Note: A site created with FrontPage should NOT be uploaded through FTP or some features will not work!

To upload your files using FTP:
You will need to configure your FTP Program to connect to your site first, before you can upload any files. If you don't have an FTP program, here's a FREE version of WSFTP (this is the version that our FTP Tutorial is based on, which is Free for Students, an option when installing), or you can find plenty of other FTP programs by clicking here.

FTP Setting Information: (after your DNS information has resolved)
FTP Server name: ftp.youdomain.com   <= (Replace with your Domain Name)
host directory or document root directory is /public_html/
Login or Username: username
Password: password
Important =>upload your files to the /public_html/ folder
upload your HTML / Graphics in standard mode (binary)
CGI scripts and Perl should be uploaded in ASCII mode

Tempory FTP Settings: (If your DNS information has NOT YET resolved)
FTP Server name: ftp.2serveu.net
all other settings are the same as above

To upload your files using File Manager:
You can upload files without learning FTP (read our easy File Manager Tutorial)
by using the handy File Manager inside your Cpanel like this:

1) Open Cpanel 2) Inside Cpanel: 3) Choose Web Root (shortcut): 4) Upload files to the /public_html/ folder

All of your website administration tasks (setting up email accounts, viewing website statistics, creating autoresponders, password protection, etc.) can easily be performed from inside your Cpanel. Important files / tips:

Important files and tips:

  • name you Homepage index.htm or index.html for it to automatically load when someone goes to http://www.yourdomain.com. This also works for any folders that you have, such as http://www.yourdomain.com/Products would look for a file in that folder named index.htm or index.html, and automatically load it.
  • remember that our system is SeNsItIvE to upper and lower case directory and file names. This also applies to your Username & Password for Cpanel and email accounts.
  • don't delete the preset directories /etc /mail /public_ftp /public_html /tmp /www /cgi-bin/, otherwise you won't be able to log in!!
  • don't delete the postinfo.html page or the _vti directories (they contain information important to FrontPage
  • Important - after uploading cgi-bin scripts, CHMOD to 755 . . . links to cgi tutorials / setting up cgi email
  • path to sendmail > /usr/sbin/sendmail
  • path to PERL > /usr/bin/perl

Note: Your WebMail can also be accessed like this:
http://www.yourdomain.com/webmail
> Login : cpanel username for your "catchall" email (other accounts username = full email address)
> Password : cpanel password for your "catchall" email (or the password for that email account)
